Please be aware that travel insurance is compulsory for all participants in all Projects. You will require hospital and accident cover as part of this insurance. We also recommend that your insurance covers your flights and other travel expenses in the case of sudden cancellation due to extraneous circumstances.
You will need to provide us with your insurance and emergency contact details at least 30 days prior to departure.
As a requirement of participating in any Project with VetProjects International, you must have an
up to date Rabies vaccination and provide us with your vaccination status at least 30 days prior to departure.
It is also advised but not a requirement of VetProjects International to seek medical advice on other vaccinations such as Hepatitis A and B or preventatives against any other condition such as malaria.
We welcome all feedback here at VetProjects International. We strive to continuously improve the experience of all participants and thank you in advance for taking the time to provide us with any and all feedback. We can be contacted on:

We take complaints very seriously and encourage you to speak up at any time with any concern or complaint you may have and we will do our best to rectify the situation immediately.
Whilst you are participating in a Project, please keep in mind that you are representing Vet Project International and we expect that you behave in a polite and respectful manner towards all parties involved during your stay.
We reserve the right to take appropriate action in the event of behaviour which would reasonably be expected to give offence to other students, project managers, other shelter staff members or members of the public. This includes behaviour such as offensive or derogatory comments, intoxication, failure to arrive on time for surgery days or leaving early without any adequate reason presented to VetProjects International staff.
A deposit of $400AUD is required at the time of registration and this can only be made online. We do not accept cheques or money transfers. We require that the balance is paid 60 days prior to the departure date of your selected Project or you will risk the loss of your deposit without refund.
If, for any reason, you choose to cancel your participation in a Project that you had registered for, the following rules apply:
• Cancellation up to 90 days prior to departure – Full refund of all moneys paid minus a $25 processing fee.
• Cancellation between 90 and 60 days prior to departure – Full refund of all moneys paid minus a $100 processing fee.
• Cancellation between 60 and 30 days prior to departure – Full refund of all moneys paid minus a $400 processing fee.
• Cancellation when less than 30 days remain prior to departure – no refund will be offered. Where possible, and at the discretion of VetProjects International, we may allow up to 90% of your payment to be used towards a different upcoming Project.
We are currently recognised by the University of Sydney to provide placements for students in their final year rotations. Provided you are a final year student and have gained permission to attend a Project by your respective Student Co-ordinator, then you will also be covered under their student placement insurance. Please note, we still require that you take out travel insurance and give proof of enrollment and acceptance of placement prior to departure.
We are keen and open to work with other Universities to gain recognition as a placement option for students. Please contact us directly to help us get the ball rolling.
We require that all participants meet the following requirements and supply the following documents:
• We require all students and vets to show proof or enrollment as a veterinary student or registration as a practicing veterinarian.
• We require all participants to provide proof and details of their up to date rabies vaccination status 30 days prior to their selected Project start date
• We require all participants to provide proof and details of travel insurance 30 days prior to their selected Project start date
• We require all participants to have pay a $400 deposit at the time of registration with the balance to be paid at least 60 days prior to their selected Project start date
If participants do not comply with these requirement VetProjects International reserves the right to cancel your participation in your selected Projected without refund.
We will provide breakfast and lunch on all onsite Project days, i.e. Monday to Friday. The food is generally absolutely delicious and vegetarian food is always available. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee our ability to cater for vegan or gluten free diets and participants will need to ensure they have their own food organised in these cases. We will do our best to assist you where possible if this is the case.
For weekends and non surgical days you will need to source your own food. But don’t worry, this is the fun part because there is no shortage of cheap, tasty food available throughout the island and provides you with a great opportunity to further explore Fiji!
We will be staying in basic shared, dormitory style accommodation. This means you will be sharing accommodation with other students. If you would like a single room then please let us know and we can try and arrange this for you, however you will need to pay the difference in room price where available.
The accommodation will be close by to the Project site and we will provide daily transport both to and from the site as required.
Outside of Project surgery hours you have complete flexibility to come and go as you please. If you choose to travel to another part of Phuket for a weekend off, go out for dinner or a other activity at night then that is absolutely fine.
We do expect, however, that you commit to the program and that you attend each session on time and in a condition suitable to perform your duties throughout the day.
Surgery days run from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday with half an hour lunch during the middle of the day.
We need to be rigid with these hours in order to make sure your opportunity for learning is maximised because the shelter and our helpers will only be available during these times.
